The Australasian Viral Hepatitis Conference is run by ASHM in collaboration with key sector partners as a platform for the dissemination and presentation of new and innovative research findings and better management across the Australasian viral hepatitis sector. Through this forum we aim to support the health workforce, government and community to work towards the elimination of hepatitis B and hepatitis C and supporting the communities living with these conditions in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia and Pacific regions.
VH2022 committee is pleased to announce that the 2022 conference will be held as a face-to-face event at the Sofitel Brisbane Central, QLD.

The conference is held biennially and was first held in Sydney in 1997 and then subsequently in Christchurch (NZ) in 1999, Melbourne in 2002, Canberra in 2004 (back-to-back with the ASHM Conference), with additional conferences shown in the table above.

Conference Overview
Building on the success of the 2017 conference the 2019 Conference took place on 5-6 August 2019 at the Novotel Sydney Brighton Beach, NSW, with over 300 delegates attending. The Conference Theme: Building momentum towards elimination of hepatitis B & C in Australasia, tied directly to the five conference objectives
• Focus on increasing diagnosis/testing and improving models of care, treatment paradigms, reinfection strategies etc.
• To provide a forum for health professionals working in viral hepatitis, to encourage an increase in their hepatitis B management roles
• Evaluate the status of the Australasian sector in working towards the 2030 WHO elimination goals
• Strengthen relationships and partnerships between primary and tertiary care, the multicultural and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce, government and community organisations
• Improve support mechanisms for primary care professionals involved in the management of viral hepatitis

The inaugural Australasian Viral Hepatitis Elimination Conference (AVHEC 2017) took place on 10-11 August 2017 in Cairns, Queensland, with over 300 delegates including health professionals, policy makers, researchers, community organisations and people living with viral hepatitis committed to eliminating hepatitis B and C as a major public health threat.
The conference was organised by the ASHM with a program highlighting latest scientific developments, as well as real world implementation of best practice care. The meeting offered opportunities for structured dialogue assessing where we are and the work still to be done in the Australasian response to viral hepatitis.
