SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
This year’s Joint Australasian HIV&AIDS + Sexual Health Conferences will be held as a face-to-face event at the Sunshine Coast Convention Centre, QLD. Scholarships will cover conference registration, and/or accommodation, and/or flights. There are scholarships available for the following:
- HIV Clinicians
- Nurses / Pharmacists
- Community

ASHM Scholarship Program Opportunities
For HIV Clinicians
DEADLINE: Applications will close on Sunday 22 May 2022, at 11:59pm AEST.
To be eligible you must:
- Be living and working in Australia or New Zealand AND
- Be an HIV s100 prescriber (GP/Primary Care) OR
- A Sexual Health Physician OR
- A Hospital Based Specialist managing HIV.
Priority will be given to:
- Clinicians with higher HIV case loads
- Clinicians from rural and remote areas managing patients with HIV or at risk of HIV
- Clinicians who meet the above criteria who have not attended this conference or other overseas HIV conferences before
- Clinicians who have not received funding from ASHM in the past, particularly in the last 2 years.

For Nurses / Pharmacists
DEADLINE: CLOSED
To be eligible you must:
- Be living and working in Australia or New Zealand AND
- Be a Registered Nurse OR
- A Pharmacist
Priority will be given to:
- Those from smaller centres managing patients with HIV or at risk of HIV
- Those who do not have access to other funding
- Those who meet the above criteria who have not attended this conference or other overseas HIV conferences before
- Applicants who have not received funding from ASHM in the past, particularly in the last 2 years.
Community
DEADLINE: CLOSED
To be eligible you must:
- Be a person living with HIV in Australia or New Zealand AND/OR
- Be a volunteer working in the HIV&AIDS sector AND/OR
- Working for a community grassroots non-government organisation
Priority will be given to:
- Women, migrants and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Sex Workers, People who use drugs, Trans people, People from custodial settings
- Applicants who have not received funding from ASHM in the past – particularly in the last 2 years, and people living with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.
Full Time Basic Science Students

To be eligible you must:
- Be a full-time basic science student
Selection Criteria:
How did you become interested in HIV/SH? (score 1-5)
- Very good (score 5) – The person has done an excellent job in clearly articulating the reasons for their interest.
- Good (score 4) – The person has done a good job in clearly articulating the reasons for their interest.
- Average (score 3) – The person has described their interest.
- Below average (score 2) – The person has some description about their interest, but the response lacks considerable detail.
- Poor (score 1) – The person has some description, but the response lacks detail and is not well articulated.
Why are you in need of a registration scholarship to attend the conferences?
- Very good (score 5) – The person has very clearly articulated why they need a scholarship to attend the conference. It is very clear that there is no other way that this person would be able to attend the conference if they did not have this funding to attend.
- Good (score 4) – The person has clearly articulated why they need a scholarship to attend the conference. It is clear that there is no other way that this person would be able to attend the conference if they did not have this funding to attend.
- Average (score 3) – The person has articulated why they need a scholarship to attend the conference. It is clear that it would be difficult for this person to attend the conference but may have other funding to attend.
- Below average (score 2) – The person has tried to articulate why they need a scholarship to attend the conference but it is not clear why they need a scholarship to attend the conference. It is not clear if they may have other funding to attend.
- Poor (score 1) – The person has not articulated why they need a scholarship to attend the conference. They did not do a very good job at indicating why attending this conference is important to them.

Abbott Scholarship
Abbott Rapid Diagnostics has sponsored two scholarships for healthcare workers and professionals working in HIV and SRH from the Pacific Island Countries and Territories, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste. The scholarship includes all costs related to travel and conference attendance and does not require an abstract to be submitted in order to be eligible.
